The first people to settle in the Eagle area were Native American tribes, including the Shoshone, Bannock, and Paiute. These tribes relied on the nearby Boise River for fishing, hunting, and transportation.
In the mid-1800s, a group of French-Canadian fur trappers established a trading post in the area that would eventually become Eagle. The post was named “La Porte” and was located on the north bank of the Boise River.
In the late 1800s, the first permanent settlers began to arrive in the area, attracted by the fertile soil and abundant natural resources. These early settlers established farms and ranches and began to develop the area’s economy.
By the early 1900s, Eagle had become an important agricultural center, with farmers growing crops like potatoes, onions, and sugar beets. The city also had a thriving timber industry, with several sawmills in the area.
